- Strayer University traces its roots to April 1892, when Strayer’s Business College of Baltimore City was founded by Dr. S. Irving Strayer.
- The College expanded to Washington, D.C. in 1904. The school was eventually renamed Strayer College and was licensed to grant bachelor of science degrees in 1970. In 1987, the College was authorized to award master’s degrees.
- In 1996, Strayer College began to offer its first online courses. In 1998, Strayer College received approval to change its name from Strayer College to Strayer University.
