Some 4,700 students are enrolled at Gordon State College, the majority of them from Georgia, but as many as 38 different countries are represented in its student body. The small, close-knit campus ensures that students receive a high-degree of personal attention from instructors. Approximately 1000 students live in on-campus housing, and the majority of other students commute from the south metro Atlanta counties of Fayette, Henry, Clayton, and Spalding.

Gordon State College offers more than 40 programs of study as well as baccalaureate degrees in early childhood education, history, biology, nursing, mathematics, English and in fall 2013, health services and informatics administration.

Students who graduate with an associate's degree may transfer to any of the four-year colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia. Students also may enroll in cooperative degree programs in cooperation with local technical colleges.

Gordon State College also offers courses in Fayetteville, Griffin, Jackson and McDonough. It boasts a strong Foundation which awards scholarships to talented students as well as an active alumni association.

The campus includes a state-of-the-art Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Center, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, a 500-seat Fine Arts Theater, apartment-style housing, a wooded walking trail, outdoor amphitheater for concerts and movies, and an expansive sports complex.

Students may participate in a variety of clubs, organizations and activities, including student government, sports, and the arts. Gordon competes in men's and women's soccer, basketball, baseball, fast-pitch softball and men's and women's tennis as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

After its beginnings as a seminary, the College became one of the nation's premier military institutions. Gordon Military College trained young men, stressing leadership, scholarship and service and its alumni may be found in every state of the union, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and in many Latin American countries. The College became a member of the University System of Georgia in 1972, as an associate-level college and was granted state college status in 2006.
