Georgia Perimeter College

Georgia Perimeter College is among the nation’s fastest-growing metropolitan two-year colleges. With more than 23,000 students, GPC is the third-largest institution in the University System of Georgia. We are affordable, and accessible with four campuses and additional sites conveniently located around Atlanta.georgia_perimeter_college1.gif

We serve traditional students as well as nontraditional and international students. GPC enrolls more freshmen, has more students transferring to other colleges and universities, has more high school Joint Enrollment students and offers more online courses than any other institution in the state. GPC’s “On-Line” program is the largest in Georgia, with more than 6,000 students enrolled.

The college serves a distinctively diverse population with students from all over the nation and 147 foreign countries. The curriculum specializes in liberal arts and professional preparation. Georgia Perimeter College students are taught by award-winning faculty in small classes. Thirty faculty have received National Teaching Excellence Award since 2001, and GPC has the largest number of Governor’s Teaching Fellows (18) in Georgia since 2001.

Also offered are cooperative degree programs with DeKalb Technical and Gwinnett Technical colleges.

Since 2006, the institution has recorded its highest number of enrolled students in its history, and it has 33 Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAGs) with four-year institutions in Georgia and other states. These agreements guarantee our students seats at some of the best public and private institutions. Research shows 60 percent of GPC’s students transfer to four-year colleges.

Qualified high school students can now be admitted to GPC within hours of applying; and the college has received more than $60 million dollars in new funding for the construction of new facilities on GPC’s four campuses. The college plans to double its enrollment at a center in Alpharetta that it shares with Georgia State University.

Founded by the citizens of DeKalb County and the DeKalb Board of Education under the Junior College Act of 1958, Georgia Perimeter College opened in 1964 under the name DeKalb College. It was the only public junior college in the state supported and controlled by a local board of education. The institution became a part of the University System of Georgia in 1986 and was renamed Georgia Perimeter College in 1996.
