The Department of Psychology is in CSU’s College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Psychology Department serves approximately 1000 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also houses the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, a University-designated program of research and scholarly excellence that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas; and the Colorado Injury Control Research Center which is funded by CDC and is dedicated to reducing the occurrence and severity of injuries in rural areas of the Rocky Mountain region, particularly among underserved populations.
The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a café. The entire campus is wi-fi enabled, including all areas surrounding the buildings.
Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. An adjacent building includes additional research space, computer facilities, a brand new imaging center housing EEG and NIRS imaging labs, and undergraduate instructional laboratories. A 3T MRI is expected to arrive on the CSU campus in the 2018-2019 academic year. In total, the Department controls over 100,000 square feet of research, teaching, and office space.
