Anthropology stands at the nexus between the social sciences, biological sciences, and humanities. It is dedicated to understanding the worldwide diversity of social institutions and cultural traditions, past and present, and to studying our nearest nonhuman relatives. The department offers undergraduate and graduate training in archaeology, as well as in biological, sociocultural, psychological, and linguistic anthropology. Regional foci include Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. Students have an opportunity to take part in archaeological field schools led by our faculty and study-abroad programs in the Middle East, Latin America, and Mediterranean.
