Western New England University, a private, independent, coeducational institution founded in 1919, seeks an experienced and innovative Vice President for Enrollment Management to provide leadership in enrollment planning; student recruitment; undergraduate, graduate and international admission; financial aid; and student records. This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking strategist to work with an experienced President, dedicated senior leadership team, and extraordinarily committed faculty, staff and administrators in elevating the University to an even higher level of excellence in anticipation of its centennial in 2019.
The Position: The new Vice President for Enrollment Management will be following a long-serving Vice President whose outstanding leadership has resulted in substantial enrollment growth over the past decade. The new Vice President will have the opportunity to build on that success by inspiring talented staff with creative ideas and strategies as the campus continues to expand its reputation. As an institution-wide leader, the Vice President will be expected to engage the University community in important conversations about enrollment and retention priorities and galvanize the University around common enrollment goals and aspirations. The Vice President reports to the President and oversees a staff of 40 employees in undergraduate and graduate admissions, financial aid, and student records.
The University: Western New England University provides integrated liberal and professional learning to 4,000 students, including 2,500 full-time undergraduates. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs are offered through the five Colleges of the University: Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Law, and Pharmacy. A wide range of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, as well as J.D., LL.M., Pharm.D, and Ph.D. degrees are offered, including several accelerated programs combining a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in business or engineering; a 3+3 Law Program; and a 6-year Biomedical/Law Program. The Campus: The picturesque 215-acre campus is set in a residential neighborhood four miles to the east of downtown Springfield. In 2011, the University unveiled the $40 million Center for the Sciences and Pharmacy. Currently underway is a $12.8 million facility renovation and expansion to accommodate the growing engineering programs. The University has residence facilities for approximately 2,000 students offering a variety of living options.
Location: Since its founding in 1919, Western New England University has been a vibrant force in Springfield, Massachusetts, and the surrounding region. Qualifications: Candidates for this position should be aware of best practices in enrollment management and how to adapt them creatively to Western New England University’s environment.
Candidates must understand current demographic and economic challenges and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to address these challenges through strategic enrollment planning. Other important skills and qualities include:
• An awareness of current and impending market and societal trends affecting undergraduate and graduate recruitment and enrollment, both domestic and international
• An understanding of student expectations and behavior and the choices that affect them, including brand identity and market position, price elasticity, promotional efforts, competitive pressures, and technology
• The ability to analyze and use data, research, and information systems
• Experience using financial aid leveraging to enroll students and meet net revenue goals
• The ability to lead, support, and mentor staff and provide professional development opportunities
• Knowledge of integrated marketing and skill in opening new student markets
• Facility with recruitment technologies and digital media
• The ability to embrace and implement change
• Commitment to the University’s diversity initiatives for student recruitment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to be an articulate spokesperson for Western New England University
• The ability to establish long-term vision while also managing important daily operational details
