Western Kentucky University, Information Technology Division (IT), is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Communication Technologies. The Communication Technologies Director reports to the Vice President of Information Technology and must work with departments and upper administration for coordination of services and activities consistent with the University’s strategic plan. The Director is responsible for the administration, management and continuous operation of the University’s network, telecommunications, cabling infrastructure, digital signage, interactive video services and classroom audio visual systems. This includes all aspects of daily operations, strategic planning, billing and budget oversight related to the systems and technology previously listed. This position is a full-time regular position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
• Oversees the continuous operation and quality of all aspects of network, telecommunications, cabling infrastructure, digital signage, interactive video services and classroom audio visual systems at all Western Kentucky University campus locations
• Oversees all tasks associated with administering Communication Technologies’ services including expanding, upgrading, modifying, and maintaining all systems. This entails generating reports, gathering statistical information, and maintaining accurate records.
• Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of provided services while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction
• Plans for future growth, upgrades, and provides cost-effective high quality solutions that benefit the University
• Creates vision and directions for the Communication Technologies department
• Supervises, directs, and provides professional and technical development opportunities for staff
• Provides a safe and secure working environment for Communication Technologies personnel
• Reviews requests for services, coordinates projects, and obtains adequate resources for the department to properly deliver its services
• Ensures proper policies and procedures for the department are in place and submits proposals for University-wide policies related to Communications Technologies services
• Reviews applicable billing and expenditures to ensure sound financial practices are being followed and are taking place in an accurate and timely manner
• Represents the University on committees, at appropriate professional associations, and with university vendors
• Provides consultation to campus regarding call centers and cellular services, to ensure client’s needs are met by Communication Technologies
• Researches, plans and develops revenue generating programs to provide competitive, quality services to students, faculty and staff. Reviews programs to track ongoing feasibility.
• Reviews and tests new technologies as they are available in order to provide better services to the University community

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Communications related field
• Five years minimum experience managing enterprise-level IT infrastructure including high-performance networking, telecommunications, and cabling plant
• Technical competency related to networking, IT infrastructure, telecommunications, video conferencing and classroom technology
• Capable of managing and leading both technical and non-technical personnel
• Ability to manage large-scale budgets
• Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills
• Superior customer service skills and ability to handle customer satisfaction issues
• Ability to manage digital signage, interactive video services, and classroom audio visual systems
• Capable of writing policies and other forms of mass communication
• Familiarity with emergency communication methodologies and technologies
