APPOINTMENT: The School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration is seeking to fill a nine-month, non-tenure track, Unit B position. The position is offered on the Macomb, IL campus, with a starting date of August 2012.

QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree from an accredited institution and teaching, scholarly, or professional experience in Fire Science/Administration or related field is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We strongly encourage application by candidates with substantial backgrounds in Fire Science/Administration. Preference is given to candidates with experience in traditional and online instruction. Applicants with experience and/or the potential for securing external funding, consistent with the department's mission, will be given added consideration.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will be required to teach Fire Protection undergraduate courses as assigned. Applicants should also demonstrate an understanding of the application of technology to enhance learning. Other duties assigned as required by the Director of the School of LEJA.

THE DEPARTMENT:The Fire program resides within the school of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration at Western Illinois University. The school is internationally known for academic excellence. The School of LEJA is comprised of 35-plus faculty members, ranks among the top public safety programs nationally. As the largest department at WIU, there are more than 1800 undergraduate and 70 graduate students pursuing degrees. Our fire program has a 30 year history of servicing the educational needs of firefighters.We offer our students a rich blend of theoretical administrative and practical knowledge as well as teach valuable research skills. Those who have earned the degree occupy positions of responsibility across the United States and in several foreign countries.

WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 10,423): A traditional, residential four-year campus with select graduate programs, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,235): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. The Quad Cities is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
