Working Title: Associate Dean of Library Services
Posting Information: Western Carolina University invites applications and nominations for the position of associate dean of Library Services. The associate dean will be a knowledgeable, experienced, and visionary educator importantly supporting the dean, department heads, faculty, and staff by providing exceptional administrative, operational, and special programs leadership. Requiring a broad understanding of how libraries contribute to the teaching and learning mission of the university, and functioning as the deputy director for library administration, the associate dean will oversee library-wide administrative programs to include: strategic planning; assessment; marketing and communications; budget; human resources; facilities planning; external partnerships and outreach; and special initiatives and projects. Contingent upon background, the associate dean might also assume departmental leadership responsibilities in public services. As appropriate, the associate dean will represent the library in campus and community activities.
Reporting to the dean of Library Services, this is a 12-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated initial appointment at the rank of associate professor. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, with a minimum salary of $70,000. The associate dean serves as a resource for library faculty and staff and is an administrative liaison with all library operations. An important responsibility of this position is to continuously assess and enhance services to the campus community in a working environment that highly values collegiality, collaboration, and creativity. The associate dean will play a key role in developing and executing the library's long-range plans in support of the university's 20/20 strategic vision, which embraces an educational model of engaged learning and service to the region.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution; demonstrated educational leadership experiences, including supervision; successful administrative experiences in an academic, research, or similar library setting; thorough understanding of academic libraries and the ways in which current and emerging technologies are affecting traditional services and collections; exceptional human relations and communication skills; strong commitment to diversity; demonstrated abilities to recruit, develop, and retain a talented staff; expertise in strategic planning and project management; and experience with and knowledge of human resources, assessment, and business and data analysis principles as applied to libraries.
Preferred Qualifications: Second post baccalaureate degree in a related field; demonstrated professional growth through involvement in state and/or national organizations; record of disciplinary scholarship; and history of high-energy leadership with enthusiasm for problem-solving, risk-taking, and innovation.
