Posting Information: Western Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish and Coordinator of the BSEd, beginning August, 2013.

Western Carolina University is a 9,000-student campus in the University of North Carolina system. In order to meet emerging needs of the people of the state, WCU is committed to doubling its enrollment within a decade. Academically, WCU offers 120 areas of study for undergraduates and more than 50 graduate-level programs, including a doctorate in education and physical therapy. WCU is in the early stages of planning for the Millennial Initiative, an ambitious and comprehensive regional economic development strategy that will enable the university to partner with business, industry, and government. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits WCU to award baccalaureate, masters, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The university is in the development stages of implementing its cutting edge Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Synthesis: Pathways to Intentional Learning. Western Carolina University is committed to the Boyer model of scholarship, stewardship of place, integrated learning, and engagement. The campus is located in the picturesque Cullowhee valley between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains, 50 miles west of Asheville, North Carolina, and 150 miles northeast of Atlanta. Four-season outdoor activities abound nearby.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Applicants should have a PhD in Spanish Linguistics (in hand by time of appointment).The successful candidate should have a proven record of college teaching, advising and mentoring, possess native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish, and be eligible for or be willing to obtain a license to teach Spanish in North Carolina public schools.

Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who are qualified to teach French and who have experience leading study abroad courses.
