Working Title: Assistant Director for Intramural Sports

Posting Information: Western Carolina University, a regional comprehensive university targeted for enrollment growth as part of the University of North Carolina system, currently serves approximately 9,000 students. Western Carolina is located in Cullowhee, N.C. in a scenic valley between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains, providing convenient access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the urban centers of Atlanta, Asheville, Greenville/Spartanburg and Knoxville.

Description: Full-time 12-month position reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness. As a member of the professional staff of the Division of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director will assist in the development and administration of a comprehensive intramural sports program for a diverse campus community.

Duties and responsibilities include:
1. Hiring, supervising, scheduling, training and evaluating all intramural officials and supervisors with a strong emphasis on student development.
2. Develop and implement policies and procedures for all intramural events with emphasis in the areas of risk management and student satisfaction.
3. Administer intramural sport leagues, tournaments and special events.
4. Develop and implement an on-going process of program evaluation and make recommendations and adjustments for continual program improvement.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: * Master's degree in Recreational Sports Administration, Physical Education or related field
* Minimum one-year full-time sports programming experience in college/university recreation setting or two years part-time (ex. Graduate Assistant)
* Previous experience in training sport officials, supervising student employees and planning and implementing sport leagues and tournaments.
* Experience working as an official in various team sports at any level
* Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
* Willingness to work weekends and evenings
* Sensitivity and commitment to diversity issues

Preferred Qualifications: * 2-5 years full-time sports programming experience in college/university recreation setting
* Experience and skills in operating PC/MAC related database, Microsoft Office applications, and league scheduling programming
* Ability to function independently as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment
* Current First Aid/CPR Certifications & First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification
