TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: P/T Program Specialist/Extension Learning Specialist
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Mount Vernon Academic Support Center/Continuing Education Division
RESPONSIBILITIES: The P/T Program Specialist/Extension Learning Specialist will report to the Director of the Mount Vernon Academic Support Center (MVASC). This three-year (subject to annual renewal), part-time, grant funded position assists with the planning and coordination of skill development programs in the Mount Vernon Academic Support Center as well as the tutorial centers located in Peekskill, Ossining and Yonkers. Daytime, evening and Saturday hours will be required for a total of 27.5 hours a week during fall and spring semesters only. (No benefits).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Participates in the recruitment and training of new tutors.
•Assists in the scheduling of tutors at all sites and finds coverage for absences.
•Tracks tutor hours and prepares tutor payroll.
•Assists students with developmental and college level math (through College Algebra and Trigonometry) as well as developmental through college level English.
•Supports college-wide initiatives such as First Year Experience.
•Researches and develops materials to enhance academic support services and keeps abreast of developments and new approaches to skill building techniques.
•Assists in the development and coordination of non-credit courses.
•Prepares and presents study skill and content based workshops.
•Assists in classroom orientations to acquaint students with resources and services offered at the MVASC.
•Travels to other extensions when needed to ensure tutor protocols are upheld.
•Maintains supplies and materials.
•Assists with compiling data and preparing reports and budgets.
•Acts as on-site administrator in the absence of the MVASC Director.
•Performs related administrative tasks including preparing schedules, fliers, announcements, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a BA degree and two years of experience in the field of education, educational administration, recruitment and/or training, or in the analysis of program operations, marketing or customer services. Experience working with under-prepared students is strongly preferred.
SALARY & BENEFITS: $29.81/hour. A maximum of 27.5 hours/week. No benefits.
