West Virginia University Office of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (Professional Technologist 4.95). This position will install and configure multiple instances of databases and applications for training, development, testing, and production on multiple machines; research new security patches and releases for databases, application and forms servers, as well as any Oracle utilities and tools utilized; monitor OIT HelpDesk and respond to helpdesk tickets that are assigned to the IS DBA Group.
A BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electronics, Engineering, or other science field is required and/or an equivalent combination of education, certifications and work experience. Applicants should have 5-8 years of overall technical experience and 4-6 years of DBA experience.
This position will require a demonstrated proficiency in problem solving, the ability to self direct and prioritize tasks, good English oral and written communication skills, and general computer skills; computer programming, database administration, and basic supervisory skills are required; proven experience in core relational database administration tasks as well as a working knowledge of UNIX, RDBMS and Application Servers required; proven experience with UNIX shell scripting (preferably AIX, SUN); demonstrated ability to prepare technical documentation and justify approach used, resolve complex issues, explain to staff on technical features of an application or process, and the ability to express technical information to non-technical users as well as gather information from them relating to system needs and issues; knowledge of computer security issues, requirements and trends.
Salary will be competitive for the State of West Virginia Higher Education and commensurate with qualifications.
