The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) is seeking a Medical Director for its Clinical Evaluation Center. This is a full time non classified physician position with the possibility of a clinical practice. The candidate must be able to be licensed in West Virginia and Board Certified or Board Eligible. Experience in medical simulation education and experience with Standardized Patient methodology highly desired.
The major and overreaching responsibility of this position is to be the medical content expert for all programs initiated by the Clinical Evaluation Center. This individual is responsible for ensuring that medical content is at the appropriate level for the learner. As this person oversees the medical content of the programs, they will work collaboratively with the Executive Director of the CEC, the CEC Operations Manager, the CEC Simulation Coordinator to ensure the quality and delivery of programs initiated by the Clinical Evaluation Center.
Primary Responsibilities
Contributes to the advancement of WVSOM and education of students by collaborating with faculty and staff on the creation and modification of curriculum (identifying and implementing innovative ways to educate students, collaborating with colleagues, preparing and reviewing curriculum, participate in group discussions, developing documents, etc.).
Oversee the medical content for simulation experiences for year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students, residents, clinical faculty and practicing physicians. Provides leadership and fosters collaboration with clinical Faculty members to create, review, edit approve and evaluate new Standardized Patient, Simulation and Hybrid cases.
Create and conduct orientation, debriefing and customized training programs on medical simulation with faculty.
Ensures the quality, best practice standards, and continuity of the educational experience and that the medical content is at the appropriate level for the learner.
The CEC Medical Director serves as the medical content expert during the creation, implementation and evaluation of new programs.

o Research opportunities
o Inter-professional activities
Continuing Medical Education Programs
Allied Health Programs
Statewide Campus Hospital Affiliates
Osteopathic Medical Schools
o Expanding program offerings for WVSOM students and faculty
o Expanding program offerings beyond WVSOM and OPTI
o Expanding Human Patient Simulation Program and combination programs
o Conducting on-going evaluation of the medical content of programs and suggests plan of action to meet or exceed national standards
Collaborate with the Simulation Coordinator to ensure standardization of cases and that medical content of each case and the program as a whole is at the correct level. Collaborates on the appropriate staffing to execute cases.
In concert with the CEC Simulation Coordinator provide orientation programs for simulation events (for the learner). Provides standardized debriefing sessions for simulation events (for the learner).
Coordinate with CEC Operations Manager and CEC Simulation Coordinator to recruit, train and evaluate contract clinical faculty.
Supervises and directs the efforts of the Electronic Health Records Coordinator in integrating electronic medical records into the simulation environment.
Demonstrate an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of various models of low, medium and high fidelity simulators within the first year.
Supervises and directs the efforts of the Health Educators. Collaborates with the CEC Executive Director, CEC Operations Manager and the CEC Simulation Coordinator to ensure a quality medical simulation experience for all learners.
Provide medical expertise to off-site simulation events at statewide campus sites and for special programs off site.
Stay up to date on international simulation standards and trends.
Serves on various committees (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, proactively handling activities, etc.).
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as needed/assigned.
Licensure/Certification Required
This position requires the candidate to be board certified or board eligible in their area of expertise. Must be able to obtain a West Virginia Medical License. Must currently be certified in ACLS and be a certified ACLS instructor or must obtain prior to hire. PALS certification and instructor certificate is highly desired. Experience in medical simulation education and experience with Standardized Patient methodology highly desired. Must have a valid driver’s license as travel is required.
Position
This is a full-time non-classified position with full state benefits and is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime. Faculty rank (if applicable) and salary commensurate with education and experience and includes moving expenses and medical malpractice insurance. Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and will require regular evening and weekend scheduling. Some travel including overnight travel will be required.
This position has been designated as Essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.
