Washington and Lee University is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Hillel. The successful candidate should have a breadth of knowledge of Judaism and Jewish life, a commitment to the holistic development of Jewish students, and the ability to manage and develop financial resources.
As a member of both the Student Affairs professional staff and an affiliate of Hillel, International, the Hillel Director is responsible for engaging Jewish students in Jewish life on campus and integrating Jewish student life into the overall campus experience. Responsibilities include advising and engaging Hillel students in their activities, overseeing the Hillel House, managing and developing financial resources, and ensuring that Hillel’s mission, values and goals are met. The position reports to the Associate Dean of Students with responsibility for Religious Life and the Washington and Lee University Hillel Advisory Board.
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in Jewish Studies or Jewish Community Leadership and related experience preferred. The successful candidate must have an understanding of university culture; more specifically that of a small campus. Must be available to work flexible hours and some weekends. Experience with fundraising, managing budgets and student recruitment is preferred. Strong leadership skills, excellent written and oral communications skills are essential.
