Director of Undergraduate and Off-Grounds Programs
The Curry School of Education, Department of Leadership, Foundations & Policy at the University of Virginia, invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position in Higher Education at the rank of Lecturer, GF beginning this spring 2012 semester. This position will concurrently hold the administrative title of Director of Undergraduate and Off-Grounds Programs on a twelve-month appointment. The position is designed for a scholarly practitioner whose teaching and scholarly interests focus upon higher education administration, student affairs, enrollment management, college student development and/or assessment of student learning in higher education.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in higher education administration or a related discipline and demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching and the organization and administration of student support programs. ABD candidates will be considered, however, degree confirmation is needed prior to the hire date of this appointment. Candidates must demonstrate an explicit commitment to, and accomplishments in teaching, research, and/or service that contribute to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups and to diversity more broadly. Candidates must have experience and the ability to teach core and elective courses in higher education administration and/or student affairs; to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and to translate their academic understanding of higher education into day-to-day leadership of student affairs and enrollment management.
Preference will be given to candidates with administrative experience in higher education, preferably in a student affairs setting.
Responsibilities: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses with a focus on student affairs and/or higher education administration; overseeing advising of potential and current students in undergraduate and off-Grounds programs; developing academic and staffing plans for undergraduate and off-Grounds programs; responding to requests from potential students in these programs; managing recruitment activities for undergraduate and off-Grounds programs; working with department chairs and program coordinators to ensure that web-based recruitment and advising materials are accurate and up-to-date; and working with the Dean's and Provost's Offices to set enrollment targets.
