Working as the College UNIX and High Performance Computing Specialist, this position is responsible for college-wide support of the UNIX and LINUX computers used in academic areas including instructional labs and research. Specifically, this position will support the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, (the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, and the Instrumentation Center). This position is charged with maintaining stable and secure UNIX/LINUX computer operating platforms as well as support for cluster computing.

The incumbent of this position will perform support and administrative functions such as installing and maintaining the operating systems, coordinating the hardware maintenance of the systems, managing the security risks associated with the systems, networking the workstations or clusters, account administration, and provides consultation regarding the procurement, selection, use, and maintenance of appropriate systems.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field is preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of UNIX/Linux system administration experience with at least 2 years in a medium-to-large user community. Mastery of various UNIX/Linux operating systems such as Red Hat, CentOS, Fedora, etc. Experience in the following areas: providing support and integration in a primary Windows environment; remote systems management tools; providing support for patches, upgrades, and maintenance in UNIX/Linux environment; support for peripherals, networked printers, and print queues. Pay Range 34 starts at $21.44 per hour.
