Senior Vice Provost

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)

As a state designated Emerging Research University with the goal of being the first national research university with a 21st century demographic, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) seeks a Senior Vice Provost and invites nominations and applications.  The Senior Vice Provost reports directly to the Provost, is a member of and helps coordinate the Deans' Council and the Provost's Council, and will

  • lead faculty development and other leadership initiatives,
  • play a key role in leading operations improvement and re-engineering processes and structures
  • provide input into and guide execution of UTEP's Strategic Plans
  • liaise with external bodies such as the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the University of Texas System
  • supervise and mentor, with the Provost, key staff and
  • work in other areas and activities that support the mission of the Provost's Office with particular emphasis on facilitating a "collaborative university" model for student success and national research university status.

Minimum qualifications include demonstrated leadership, complex administrative and management experience in an academic (at least department chair level) and/or higher education entity (e.g., system body) for over five years.  Terminal degree, preferably at the doctoral level, is required.

Founded in 1914, UTEP enrolls more than 22,000 students on 420 acres, that include numerous research centers and institutes. Our students are 75% Hispanic and mirror the population of this region and, increasingly, that of Texas and the United States.

UTEP offers 70 bachelor's, 75 master's and 19 doctoral programs all of which reflect a quality of education that has led major magazines to praise the University for the success of its business, engineering and health sciences programs. UTEP is a Carnegie classified High Research University and a Carnegie designated Community Engaged University. UTEP's rapidly growing research has resulted in a $220 million grant portfolio and nearly $70 million in annual research expenditures.

In 2014, UTEP will celebrate 100 years of achievements and innovation with our most ambitious fundraising campaign in our history. At the Forefront: The Centennial Campaign for UTEP is a $200 million comprehensive campaign that will impact the entire University and transform every aspect of the community it serves.
