Building/Grounds Supervisor I

Job Description Supervises custodial zone operations for the cleanliness, appearance, safety, and maintenance functions of Facilities Department in the buildings of the University of South Carolina's Columbia campus. Performs backup custodial work when necessary.
Hours: 4:30 am - 12:30 pm Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and three (3) years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified with one (1) year of supervisory experience and a valid driver's license.
Knowledge of how to properly carry out custodial tasks. Knowledge of custodial standards and requirements. Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of inventory control. Some knowledge of personnel, procurement, and budgeting practices in state government. Knowledge of the concepts and techniques of on-the-job training. Ability to keep accurate written records. Ability to prioritize and make the optimal use of personnel, materials and equipment. Ability to plan, direct and review the work of subordinates. Ability foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate.
Mental demands include the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to problem solve through effective listening and observation skills. Ability to assist in budget planning and monitoring expenditures. Ability to estimate job costs.
Physical demands include the extensive physical activity including walking, climbing, standing, ducking, kneeling, squatting, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing, pulling, driving a vehicle, observing, listening, speaking, and manual dexterity. The work environment includes exposure to hazards that require following basic safety guidelines, and exposure to dirt, water, heat/cold, and hazardous chemicals. Preferred Qualifications
