Job Summary:

GENERAL SCOPE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Sergeant, Public Safety Community Service Officer’s (CSO’s) primary responsibility is to write parking citations on USF property. They are also required to report any observed violations of University rules, regulations and/or criminal activities to the Public Safety Dispatcher.


Public Safety Employees patrol campus 24 hours a day on foot, in marked vehicles, on mountain bikes, on motorcycles and on Segways. An on-campus radio communication system links the Patrol Officers, Reserve Officers, and Community Service Officers with the Department’s dispatch center.


The Department of Public Safety provides a variety of law enforcement and related services as well as ongoing programs in disaster, crime and fire prevention on and around the 55-acre hilltop campus.

Job Responsibilities:

Public Safety Community Service Officer’s (CSO’s) primary responsibility is to write parking citations on the USF Campus.


Other additional assignments may include: (under the direction of a Public Safety Officer) providing a presence at campus functions; dances, athletic events, receptions and special presentations.


CSO’s may also be required to assist during medical emergencies by escorting ambulance and fire personnel to the location of the emergency.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education High School Diploma or GED


Possess sufficient strength and agility necessary to perform the duties of a CSO including walking through buildings, climbing stairs, carrying heavy objects, etc.


Certifications: Valid California Driver’s License. Current Consumer Affairs Guard registration card, Department of Justice Straight Baton Certification card, Red Cross Basic First-Aid and CPR Certification is Preferred.


Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, good leadership skills, and an understanding of the mission and vision of the University.


Candidates must also pass background investigation of personal history and employment history.
