Job Description:
The Cook is responsible for providing skilled assistance in the supervision and preparation of all food production, maintenance of quality and/or portion control, and the maintenance of sanitation and safety standards. General supervision received from Unit Leader and/or Manager. Provide close supervision of casual worker staff (kitchen assistants and student staff).

Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. At least 2 years of related experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Culinary experience preferred. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of proper cook times, temperatures and food preparation procedures and techniques. Understanding of basic sanitation and safety requirements. Strong communication skills and problem solving abilities. Ability to organize personnel, work and materials for maximum productivity. Proven ability to supervise and motivate staff. Excellent skills in the use of specific equipment and tools, as well as their preventive maintenance and calibration requirements. Must be able to lift and carry boxes of meat, milk and supplies from 10 lbs. to no more than 25 lbs. alone and up to 75 lbs. with help.


Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must complete an 8-hour Serv Safe as required by the San Diego Health Department.
Must complete the University’s Hazmat Communication Program


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be able to work a varied hourly work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours may be reduced during slow periods (January/June/July). Must be able to work flexible schedule during intersession and summer conference periods. Must have excellent personal hygiene because of contact with food and food products.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit based position with an assignment end date of June 1, 2012.

Salary: $10.00 an hour

Hours per week: 20
