Job Summary: The University of Richmond Police Department is responsible for the protection of persons and property, and the enforcement of Virginia laws and university regulations on the campus of the University of Richmond.

We are presently developing a list of certified law enforcement officers (must be certified as a Virginia State Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services) to hire police officers during the next twelve months should vacancies occur.

Qualifications and Skills: United States Citizen

At least 21 years of age

Presently certified as a Virginia State Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services

Possess a Virginia State Motor Vehicle Operators License

Possess a driving history record that complies to the regulations required to operate a University Motor Vehicle

Be of excellent moral character, not having been convicted of a felony, or misdemeanor, or any offense involving moral turpitude

Be in excellent health

Project a good physical appearance

Able to perform the essential duties of a police officer.

Essential Functions: Duties of a University of Richmond Police Officer include but are not limited to:

Routine patrol of the campus and adjacent streets to prevent and discover the commission of crimes.

Respond to both emergency and service calls for the University of Richmond community.

Make arrests, gather evidence, testify in court.

Enforce the laws of Virginia and parking rules of the university.

Serve as a liaison to the campus community.

Provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors on the university campus.

All other essential police functions.

Special Application Instructions Must be presently certified as a Virginia State Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.
