This job expired 3 months ago.Job Summary: The content coordinator works in collaboration with the web and graphic design coordinator for the School of Arts & Sciences and with other University Communications colleagues. Responsible for writing and editing written content for both print and electronic publications, the content coordinator communicates the breadth and depth of the School's departmental and programmatic offerings, with a strong emphasis on writing for the Web. The content coordinator specifically produces content for the School's Web 53 web sites, electronic and print newsletters, brochures and other print publications, the University's communications channels, and new media formats such as YouTube videos, blogs and social networks. The communications coordinator must be able to multitask, working closely with the web and graphic design coordinator and University Communications colleagues to execute many projects at once.
Qualifications and Skills: Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Basic knowledge of managing Web sites in content management systems (CMS)
Basic understanding of web analytics
Knowledge of best practices for writing for the Web
Knowledge of best practices for writing for print marketing materials and newsletters
Excellent written storytelling abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
Excellent interviewing skills
Familiarity with university setting preferred
Outstanding ability to build strong relationships with School's various constituents and with colleagues in University Communications
Basic knowledge of HTML
Ability to manage stress
Familiarity with social networking systems and other Web 2.0 technologies
Effective presentation skills
Team collaboration skills
Ability to multitask, producing multiple projects at a time on deadline
Essential Functions: PRINT AND PR WRITING (30%)
Writes and edits a wide range of publications, including brochures, newsletters, invitations and posters
Drafts formal news releases on behalf of the 35+ departments and programs in the School of Arts & Sciences; works with director of media and public relations for editing and distribution
Acts as key story source for print and online versions of alumni magazine
Coordinates with director of media and public relations to choose faculty stories for the media and public relations department and its PR agency to pitch to select media
Gathers and submits monthly departmental news to campus publications
WRITING AND EDITING FOR THE WEB (50%)
Reviews and approves Web edits submitted by over 75 departmental and programmatic Web contributors
Writes online features and news items that are distributed across the School's 53 Web sites and on the university's main site; requires interviewing students, faculty and alumni
Inputs Web content into CMS
Tracks web analytics on Arts & Sciences sites and reports information to the director of web and editorial strategy so the School's web strategy remains aligned with how users interact with the web
Manages online submissions from Web visitors, including "Share Your Experience" updates, e-newsletter subscriptions, and faculty/staff bio updates
Writes and edits the content in the School's electronic alumni newsletter
Writes content to develop the School's presence on new and existing social media platforms and coordinates, as appropriate with the University Communications social media officer
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS IMPLEMENTATION (15%)
Works with the account coordinator and University Communications colleagues to develop marketing plans for specific programmatic and departmental events within the School
Works with the web and graphic design coordinator and account coordinator to implement line items within specific marketing plans on time and at or under budget
EVENT PLANNING (5%)
Works with the web and graphic design coordinator and account coordinator to develop promotional materials for A&S events
Assists with implementation of A & S events, as necessary
