IT DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT ARCHITECTURE

Duties This position requires a devotion to teamwork, an innate curiosity about the future path of application development technologies, a passion for software development, and an appreciation for the criticality of a stable, reliable, and secure application environment.
We will expect you to create and maintain strategic roadmap for a stable, modern, scalable and automated development environment. You will have to keep development platforms and tools up-to-date and ensure the Core Systems and development team's input is taken into account before making major decisions with senior management. You will work with the Core Systems and development teams and senior management to evaluate, implement, and standardize on new tools and methodologies. You will implement and maintain systems and development tools and create training and on-boarding documentation and guidelines for all development staff. You will oversee concept reviews, code reviews and consult with IT staff on new projects to help with architectural recommendations. Identify organizational standards and best practices for development and work with IT staff to advocate adherence. There will be rotational on-call duties and a focus on information system security is required in every aspect of this position.
As the IT Director of Development Architecture, you will provide strategic direction for and take ownership of Wharton's application development platforms, toolsets and processes. You will be the point person responsible for the maintenance and future trajectory of the School's application development environment. To be effective, you must be able to bridge the gap between the systems and developer groups and balance the resiliency/stability tradeoff. You will guide the alignment of individual applications, data sets and services with strategic business needs, gaining efficiencies with the smart application of IT by encouraging the growth of systems that help the organization thrive, and killing those that would cost the organization. The optimal candidate will create a cutting-edge set of shared services that everyone wants to use rather than simply mandating specific services and tools. Qualifications Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field and 6 to 7 years development experience and demonstrated leadership in development arena required or equivalent combination of education and experience. ColdFusion expertise required. Other language experience such as .NET or PHP strongly preferred. Previous architectural experience preferred. Strong communication skills required. Research skills and problem-solving track record required. Database skills required, preferably in MSSQL and MySQL. Attention to detail and self-management skills a must. Demonstrated ability to successfully work across teams required.
