Duties Reporting to the Senior Executive Director and working closely with the Deputy Chief Advancement Officer, and Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), develop an understanding of the educational, research, clinical and financial needs and goals of Penn Medicine. Provide leadership and day-to-day management for all of Medical Development's medical alumni programming and fundraising activities for 20,000+ alumni, including: reunion activities, medical alumni programs, publications and communications, as well as the alumni major gifts and the alumni annual giving programs. Serve as a member of the Principal Gifts Team, designed to focus Penn Medicine Leadership on gifts of $5M+ for the Penn Medicine Campaign. Provide direct supervision of four directors and oversee additional seven staff members. Work with this group to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for Penn Medicine, translate medical fundraising priorities into appropriate assignments and activities for major gifts fundraisers, and maintain the flow of information about these priorities to the team. Coordinate closely with all members of the senior management team for Penn Medicine, including the Senior Executive Director and the Executive Directors of: IOG/UPHS, Campaign Initiatives, Services, ACC/Cancer Services. Demonstrated ability to mentor, manage and motivate a team of experienced development professionals. In-depth experience in and knowledge of major gift fundraising ($250,000 and above) in a higher education environment. Knowledge of medical/academic medical center environment preferred. Demonstrated skills in oral and written communications, reflecting ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling fundraising proposals. Direct experience working with volunteers and volunteer groups, reflecting ability to recruit, motivate, and manage volunteer leadership. Ability to articulate a compelling case for major philanthropic support for the programs of Penn Medicine presenting medical center objectives persuasively to potential donors. Demonstrated effectiveness in managing multiple projects and solicitations simultaneously. Ability to function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding high energy level, discretion, patience, enthusiasm, and humor. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Travel, both locally and nationally, evening/weekend work and valid driver's license required. Ability to staff events as needed.
