Duties Reporting to Executive Director and/or Deputy Executive Director, manage Corporate Contracts and Alliances Group, providing oversight & supervision of Corporate Contracts team responsible for helping to structure, negotiate and manage facilitation of research agreements for the CC&A Group in close coordination with the licensing and new business development groups; work as senior member of department; participate in strategic planning; develop and nurture relationships with faculty; direct all corporate contract and corporate alliance related activities with strategically and financially important commercial partners; implement outreach programs to faculty. Group agreement responsibilities include sponsored research, collaboration, data sharing, tangible research materials, material transfer, corporate service, program consulting, non-disclosure and integrated partnership agreements, as well as consideration, modification and incorporation, as necessary, non-standard IP related provisions during contract drafting and negotiation. Provide effective direction and guidance to colleagues, clients and stakeholders regarding navigating research support services. Manage Corporate Alliance Group, which is responsible for conducting proactive outreach to potential corporate partners for Penn faculty members, research programs and technology focus areas; manage and deploy his/her group with a concerted focus on external outreach to identify potential private sector partners for Penn faculty-driven research and development projects and development of deep understanding of faculty and programmatic research interests at Penn to facilitate the aforementioned outreach activities and bridge potential areas of interest. Provide close coordination between corporate contracts group and corporate alliances group; work closely with Licensing and New Business Development officers and New Ventures personnel to identify new opportunities for corporate research alliances and commercialization related agreements. Qualifications Masters required, M.D., Ph.D., J.D. or equivalent doctoral degree strongly preferred, plus 7-10 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; previous experience in alliance building and contract negotiation; understanding of research environment, preferably in higher education; excellent customer service skills; excellent oral and written communications skills; previous supervisory experience required; knowledge of Penn research administration systems and processes, including electronic research administration systems (e.g., Penn ERA and the Research Inventory System) a plus.
