University of the Pacific’s Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry seeks an experienced and charismatic advancement leader to join Dean Patrick Ferrillo and his senior leadership team as the Associate Dean for Development.
Currently located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco and scheduled to relocate in 2014 to the city’s SOMA (South of Market Street) district after the completion of a $40M campaign, Dugoni has served the Bay Area community for more than 113 years. Ranked as the top clinical program in the country, the associate dean will be leading a team of advancement professionals to usher in a new level of philanthropic success at Dugoni. With strong alumni commitment, exceptional and engaged volunteers, a dynamic and supportive university leadership team, and a supportive, family-like culture, Dugoni is poised for even greater excellence. University of the Pacific is an independent, comprehensive university offering undergraduate, professional, and graduate degrees in nine schools and colleges to over 6,200 students on three campuses.
Reporting to the dean with a dotted line to the university’s vice president for advancement, the associate dean will be the chief advancement officer for the Dugoni School. The successful candidate will have an ambitious agenda to achieve but will have the support of the dean, the vice president, the president, and university volunteers to be successful. The central objective for the associate dean for external affairs is to assist the dean of the school in advancing strategic priorities and opportunities by securing as much philanthropic support for the school as possible. These priorities include faculty support, student scholarship and stipend funding, capital initiatives and programmatic support.
The associate dean will be an experienced and talented major and principal gift fund raiser with a successful track record of engagement with prospects and donors at the six and seven-figure and leadership gift levels. He or she will have the particular ability to develop and execute strategy at both the departmental and prospect level and will be a proven planner and executor of those plans. A seasoned and skillful approach to leadership is a serious requirement. The associate dean must interface with a significant number and wide diversity of people and programs to optimize the performance of the school, and doing so will require the ability to work productively and happily with a range of individuals. For this reason, diplomacy, tact, significant intellectual capacity, exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, and, above all, unquestioned integrity are necessary ingredients for the new associate dean. At least 8 years of a proven track record in fundraising, development, major gifts is required along with a bachelor’s degree, with master’s degree preferred.
