Position Summary: RESEARCH INSTRUCTOR. Individual will be expected to devote the majority of their time conducting research on the development and implementation of state-of-the art humanized mouse models for human specific pathogens. Specifically, he/she will develop safety plans, IRB protocols, IACUC protocols, standard operating procedures for all experiments involving pathogens and humanized mice. Will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of two different flow cytometers. Will assist in the design and implementation of advanced research projects. In addition, will be responsible for all aspects associated with humanized mouse models in the laboratory. In the laboratory, will supervise graduate students and technicians on a daily basis. Will also be expected to write and submit grant proposals to secure independent funding and to write scientific manuscripts for publications of research results obtained. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in the teaching of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students. Further details regarding research and teaching responsibilities will be further developed as needed.
Education Requirements: Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology or Virology and at least four years of postdoctoral training.
Qualification and Experience: Qualified applicants must have documented experience with generating humanized mice, HIV infections of humanized mice, multi-color flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry. Outstanding communication (oral and writing) skills in English. Documented track record of publications in high impact journals in this or related field. Documented track record of successful grant writing. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary group and direct the work of students, postdoctoral fellows and technicians.
