Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be employed at Mission Health System in Asheville, North Carolina with an active patient-focused teaching practice with the internal medicine rounding team and on a step down unit at Mission Hospital (MH). The University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy (UNC ESOP) will provide partial funding support. In August 2011, the UNC ESOP opened a satellite campus in Asheville, well known for The Asheville Project. The clinician faculty member will support experiential education and teaching on the satellite campus.
MH, part of a five hospital system, is an 800-bed, tertiary care, community-based teaching hospital in the 16 county region of Western North Carolina. The pharmacy department has seven PGY1 residents, and some pharmacists practice as collaborative pharmacist practitioners (CPPs) and respond to over 35,000 physician-generated patient consults per year. The system is technologically advanced utilizing CPOE since 2008 and with over 18,000 medication doses prepared and dispensed daily. MH Department of Pharmacy and UNC ESOP have had a mutually beneficial collaborative relationship since 1995 that supports excellence in patient care, teaching and clinical research.
Academic appointment with UNC ESOP will be either at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on degree of experience.
Responsibilities will include:
*participation in multidisciplinary rounds on the internal medicine teaching service and on an adult step down floor, the provision of pharmacotherapeutic management to improve patient care, assistance with accountability in SCIP and CMS core measures, and the provision of cost-effective drug therapy for patients at MH
*direct precepting of student and resident medicine experiences at MH
*participation in scholarly activities and outcome-based clinical research
*didactic teaching in the fourth year seminar course (or future comparable courses), problem based learning and for therapeutics courses or electives pertaining to adult internal medicine for UNC ESOP on the Asheville campus
*participation as an active member of the adult medicine service line at MH
*participation as an active member in the UNC ESOP Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE).
Education Requirements:
*Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy
*Maintenance of an active license to practice pharmacy in NC or current eligibility to become licensed in NC within 60 days of hire
*Completion of a PGY1 residency or two or more years of inpatient adult medicine experience
Qualification and Experience:
*Completion of Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy
*Demonstration of current eligibility for a Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner (CPP) license in NC
*Completion of two or more years of clinical practice experience with precepting responsibilities
*Demonstration of skills in leadership and scholarship
*Demonstration of effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities
*Experience or training using Cerner®
