Department: Dean of Students Office
Position Summary: The Office of Accessibility Resources & Service at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill supports the University's commitment to an accessible environment. In consultation with faculty, staff, and students, the department works to identify and eliminate barriers that limit a student's ability to independently meet the numerous demands of University life. The Office of Accessibility Resources & Service is in search of an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director works with the Director to develop and implement policies and services that ensure that all programs, services, and facilities of the University are accessible to all members of the University community.
Education Requirements: Master's degree preferred in fields relating to direct service to students with disabilities (e.g. Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Education, or other related fields) in a post-secondary academic setting.
Qualification and Experience: Minimum four to six (4-6) years of progressive service (post Bachelor's or Master's degree) and administrative experience in a disability services program in a post-secondary setting, preferably at a residential college university. Demonstrated understanding of all relevant laws and legislations (i.e. Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and related standards) as it relates to a post-secondary setting. Demonstrated knowledge of all categories of disabilities and appropriate accommodations in a post-secondary setting. Experience with classroom managements systems, assistive adaptive technology, and concepts of Universal Design (instructional and architectural). Ability to work with a database. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to consult with faculty and other campus colleagues regarding adaptive technologies, accommodations and universal design principles. Highly developed oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
