Position Summary: Nine-month appointment with possibility of additional summer school session. Proposed starting date is negotiable, but preferably July 1, 2013. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in at least two of the following areas: sport administration, sport facility and event management, sport economics/finance, sport marketing, and sport law. * Serve in a leadership role to help the sport administration faculty identify areas of growth in graduate and undergraduate curricula to promote future innovation within both programs. * Potential to serve in leadership role as a specialization coordinator for the graduate or undergraduate programs in Sport Administration. * Serve as an advisor and/or committee member for masters theses and undergraduate honors theses. * Continue established research and publication agenda and/or develop new lines of research in sport administration, sport communication, sport economics/finance, sport facility and event management, or sport marketing. * Work to secure externally funded research grants. * Participate in departmental and university service and governance functions. * Exhibit collegiality and contribute to departmental and university related service activities. * Other duties as assigned by the department chair. GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a major research University in the North Carolina state system with enrollment of over 29,000 students. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and enrolls over 700 undergraduate and 60 graduate students. The graduate sport administration specialization is focused on the preparation of collegiate athletics administrators and operates in close association with the UNC Department of Athletics. The program is highly selective, admitting only 9 students per year to the two-year program. Education Requirements: * An earned doctorate in sport administration/management or a closely related field.
Qualification and Experience: * Record of research publication preferred in at least two of the following areas: sport administration, sport communication, sport economics/finance, sport facility and event management, sport sociology, sport law/sport governance or sport marketing;research with an emphasis in intercollegiate athletics is preferred. * Teaching experience at the collegiate level is required, specifically in the areas listed above. * Experience in advising graduate and/or undergraduate research projects. * Experience in collegiate athletic administration desirable. * Record of internally and/or externally funded research is desirable. * Demonstrates involvement and/or leadership roles within sport management related organizations.
