Commonwealth Medicine (CWM) is the health care consulting division of UMass Medical School, Massachusetts’ only public medical school. As nationwide leaders in the development and implementation of health care reform, Commonwealth Medicine stays ahead of health care trends and helps strategize and plan for changes that impact both health care delivery systems and patients on the local, state and national level. Commonwealth Medicine’s Marketing Analytics Department is responsible for developing and executing effective business development strategies, marketing plans, business plans and communications for the organization. The marketing and business functions include RFP and proposal support, competitive intelligence, product development and pricing strategies, market segmentation, organizational positioning, branding strategy, website and electronic marketing strategies, prospect management, and client satisfaction research and analysis.
Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a seasoned Executive Director, New Business & Financial Growth to be a key member of the CWM executive leadership team with the Marketing Analytics Department.
In addition to being responsible for driving new business development efforts, developing new financial models for CWM products and services and supporting the business lines in pricing business opportunities, you will also:
•Oversee annual planning and business development activities that result in continual identification and awareness of opportunities which will strengthen the market presence, visibility, quality and financial performance of Commonwealth Medicine.
•Provide expert consultation and assistance services in preparing competitive responses to solicitations and similar business opportunities requiring the preparation of competitive cost responses.
•Provide operational analysis to support Commonwealth Medicine in developing appropriate rate structures for business opportunities including but not limited to managed care, provider networks, governmental reimbursement, regulatory compliance and complex health care systems.
•In partnership with the senior management team and leaders from Commonwealth Medicine, develop the framework for the identification, assessment and determination of opportunities which will identify and grow market opportunities and improve financial performance.
•Develop a robust analytics capability to assure that pricing strategies for new and existing service lines are sufficient to ensure profitability.
•Analyze business propositions, prepare assessments and implications and offer creative alternatives based upon findings, ensuring that the respective resources and talents of Commonwealth Medicine are integrated to form the most competitive organizational response.
•Demonstrate the ability to integrate and synthesize the multiple variables affecting growth and improvement opportunities, including payment/reimbursement trends, emerging technology, regulatory issues and the capacity to deliver best in class services and products.
•Help set the organizational context in which the mission of the system can be translated into valuable services and programs, especially considering the critical challenges confronting health care today.
•Collaborate to apply lean thinking and lean six sigma applications and methodologies to resource intensive processes toward producing systematic innovations, controlling costs and improving quality.
A master’s degree in health care administration, business administration or a related discipline and at least 10 years of progressively responsible executive experience in a complex, dynamic health care setting, with exposure to government and/or other payer settings is required. Leadership experience at the highest level of an organization relative to financial modeling and pricing is essential. Consulting experience in business development, with a track record of creativity, entrepreneurialism and service line development would also be considered.
Experience working with external groups, including planning agencies, regulatory authorities and others to advance the proposals of the organization as well as knowledge of current trends and strategies in medical service delivery, including collaboration, partnering options and shared participation in the growth and prosperity of the organization is a must. Experience with financial modeling/pricing relative to Pharmacy benefit management/medication therapy management, utilization management/care management, delivery of long term support services or delivery/management of services in correctional health settings is preferred.
