This job expired 6 days ago.The Legal Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in coordination with the Division of Online and Continuing Education seeks to fill a full-time non-tenure-track position of Lecturer. The position requires a faculty member who is capable of an active role in the growth and development of the online Legal Studies program with special emphasis in the Paralegal program. The candidate selected is expected to assume a leadership position in gaining American Bar Association accreditation for the Paralegal program. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate legal studies courses, including the emerging interdisciplinary law and society course. Academic advising especially for the online Paralegal program and for undergraduate students minoring or concentrating in Legal Studies during the daytime is required. The successful applicant must be both capable and committed to outstanding online and traditional yet innovative teaching, academic advising, and community service and outreach. Teaching load will be 18 credit hours per academic year. The successful applicant will report to the Program Director for Legal Studies who might assign additional duties related to the online Legal Studies program and/or university interdisciplinary programs. The Legal Studies Program is part of the Department of Economics within the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Applicants are expected to hold a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school. Applicants preferably are licensed to practice law and have relevant law practice experience especially overseeing paralegal(s) staff. An undergraduate and/or graduate degree or certification in the fine arts, social sciences or humanities is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of university level curriculum development, experience with on line teaching, and excellence in teaching. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-J.D. from an ABA accredited law school (must have at the time of application)
-Prior experience using Blackboard
-Previous experience teaching online at the undergraduate level.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
-Demonstrated excellence in teaching
-Preferred experience working in a law office or government legal setting with paralegal staff.
