University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach AMBA 630 The Economics of Management Decisions for the award-winning Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program in the Graduate School. The new adjunct faculty member will join one of the largest online institutions in the world, serving a global student population. UMUC is one of 11 degree-granting institutions in the University System of Maryland. Working adults, military personnel, and other students around the globe are achieving their academic goals through UMUC’s innovative educational options, including online instruction, accelerated academic programs, and classroom-based courses, taught during the daytime, evenings, and weekends. Currently, more than 34,000 students attend UMUC nationally, and an additional 35,000 students attend UMUC at on-site classes in more than 23 countries throughout the world; about 50,000 students are active duty military, veterans, and their families. In 2011, UMUC had over 234,000 online course enrollments.
Required Areas of Expertise:
AMBA 630 The Economics of Management Decisions (6 Credits)
Teaching a seminar applying the concepts of economic decision making to a wide variety of managerial situations, including financial statement analysis; asset valuation; budgeting; cost management; and performance evaluation of organizations, organizational units, products, and managers.
Facilitate and develop student’s critical thinking to make connections among concepts from the disciplines of microeconomics, finance, managerial accounting, and financial accounting.
The course addresses the current legal and ethical issues surrounding financial accounting along with the valuation of tangible, financial, and intangible assets in a domestic and global context.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An earned doctorate or terminal degree in business management or a related field is required.
Relevant professional managerial experience in corporate communities/industries and government agencies is required.
Prior experience in teaching and in distance education (preferably at the graduate level and with adult, part-time student established in their careers) is preferred.
