Founded in 1881 by the
Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, UIW is the largest Catholic university in the state and the fourth largest private university in Texas. With 130 years of tradition, UIW is known for offering students a quality education from world class professors who offer students personal attention
UIW students enjoy a diversified curriculum and can choose from a variety of interesting
and challenging majors. In all, more than 70 undergraduate, graduate, PhD and professional programs including pharmacy and optometry are offered. UIW also features the Virtual University and the Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCaP), an accelerated evening and weekend studie
s program designed for working adults.
Qualified applicants are admitted on a continual or rolling basis, throughout the year. Approximately 92% of UIW students receive financial assistance with more than $100 million spent annually in scholarships, work study, grants and loans.
UIW is a member of the NCAA Division II, and the Lone Star Conference. UIW is proud to have 19 teams representing 13 different sports, more than any other NCAA Division II school in Texas. We also have a very active campus life. Our students participate in academic, social and professional organizations including Greek life, service, special interests, intramurals and inter-collegiate athletics.
