Requisition Number: 0900756

Department : 19090000-EG-MATERIALS SCI ENGINEERING

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

DIRECTOR AND ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR
OF THE NUCLEAR ENGINEERING PROGRAM
UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

The Nuclear Engineering Program in the College of Engineering at the University of Florida is seeking a highly qualified individual to become its Director. This could be a tenured or tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with a strong preference towards tenured full professor.

The Nuclear Engineering Program is undergoing a major revitalization and expansion within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. We recently hired three new faculty members, and a search is underway for an additional faculty member. The Director will guide the strategic development of this program, lead curriculum development, lead research initiatives, expand outreach programs for government and industrial partnerships, expand program visibility, and foster alumni participation in program revitalization. The Director will also participate within the Nuclear Engineering Department Heads Organization (NEDHO) which meets regularly at the American Nuclear Society Meetings, foster or lead major cross-disciplinary/multi-institutional research proposals, expand our graduate recruitment activities, and foster continued growth of the graduate curriculum. The Nuclear Engineering Program offers an ABET-accredited B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Nuclear Engineering Sciences. We anticipate that the successful applicant will continue the traditions of teaching and research that support our academic pursuits at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Nuclear Engineering Program was integrated into the UF Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) in 2011. This unique configuration provides a vibrant, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative environment. The department includes 45 faculty members, over 250 graduate students, over 340 undergraduates (undergraduates are approximately equally split between the NE and MSE programs), and over $10 million in annual research expenditures. Our faculty research activities are essential to the success of our programs; as such, new members of our faculty are expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored research and graduate training programs.

The University of Florida is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. According to Florida law, applications and meetings regarding applications are open to the public on request. We are dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in nuclear engineering, materials engineering, engineering physics, nuclear physics, or a closely related discipline. Applicants must possess an ability to create and sustain nationally and internationally recognized programs.

Preferred Qualificaitons:

Exceptional candidates with a proven record in related areas of nuclear materials will also be considered. A doctoral degree in nuclear engineering or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

The search committee will begin reviewing applications immediately and will continue to receive applications until the position is filled. To be considered you must apply by submitting an application through Gatorjobs at https://jobs.ufl.edu/apply, reference position number 00004229 and attach the following required documents: curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and contact information for three references.

In addition, PDF files of the application package should be e-mailed to Ms. Venice Walker (venice@mse.ufl.edu). For additional information about the Department and University, please visit our Web site at http://www.mse.ufl.edu.
