Job Description:
The Chair will report to the Dean of the College of Medicine. The Chair will join a collegial, highly respected leadership team and will play an instrumental role in continuing to sustain and grow an excellent department in clinical quality, research and education. The Chair will be responsible for the overall administrative, academic and clinical outcomes of the department.
The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine has approximately 52 faculty members and fellows and 26 residents. Clinical revenues are approximately $35 million. The clinical enterprise has over 78,000 outpatient visits and approximately 9,000 inpatient visits. The department is actively involved in clinical trials and research. The department faculty also provide hospitalist care at Shands UF North and South towers. The department has model practice sites in several communities, providing training in urban and rural medicine and health care for underserved areas in the state. These teaching and clinical activities are augmented by a variety of research projects that explore and contribute to the scientific knowledge base in family and community medicine, rural health, primary care, behavioral medicine, and the medical humanities.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must possess an M.D. degree from an accredited medical school and must be certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Candidates must possess significant leadership experience as a section or division chief, vice chair or similar role, with demonstrated fiscal and managerial responsibility. It is important for the new Chair to possess a vision to assure that the department grows in rank and reputation. The ideal candidate will have national recognition and be actively involved in professional societies and physician organizations.
