Requisition Number: 0900190

Department : 29310200-MD-AGING/ GERIATRIC RES-OTHER

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position with the Department of Aging and Geriatric Research and the Institute on Aging, College of Medicine, University of Florida in Gainesville.

The University of Florida (UF) Department of Aging is recruiting for a full-time, 12-month tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. The incumbent in this position will work in the Institute on Aging’s brand new, state-of-the-art building which is set to open in 2013. The salary, benefits and start-up package are competitive and negotiable based on education and experience.

The successful candidate has an excellent track record of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications, and has completed a doctorate in Biochemistry, Genetics, Physiology or other related fields, or has an M.D. or equivalent. The incumbent in this position will advance independently funded collaborative cutting edge translational research focused on age-related physical and cognitive disability; contribute to graduate, post-graduate or junior faculty mentoring as appropriate; and bring significant contributions to the overarching research themes and goals for the department and Institute, which consist in improving the health, independence and quality of life of older adults by means of interdisciplinary teams in areas of research, education and health care.

The Department of Aging enjoys state-of-the-art resources: the Aging and Rehabilitation Research Center (ARRC) provides 9,500 sq. ft. of clinical research space, a well-trained staff experienced in clinical research as well as numerous support staff dedicated to the Institute on Aging Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (IOA-OAIC). The building has 7 exam rooms, a large performance lab, an on-site processing room and physical assessment equipment. The Biochemistry of Aging and Genomics and Biomarkers Core Laboratory occupies approximately 2,000 sq. ft, and its experienced staff utilizes a wide array of biochemistry equipment. The Health Promotions Center is a 6,400 sq. ft. dedicated facility for delivering lifestyle interventions as well as screening and recruitment of study participants; it has fully equipped offices and cubicles, a 60X60 ft track area, and various strength and balance training equipment. The new 40,000 sq. ft. Institute on Aging Clinical Translational Research building anticipated to be completed in 2013 will house office space and the research facilities currently located at the ARRC, and will be adjacent to an 80,000 sq. ft. complex housing the Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the UF Clinical Research Center, clinical trial regulatory offices, other clinical research programs, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and epidemiology research, a geriatric medicine multispecialty clinic, and more. This will provide a unique opportunity to have basic science, clinical, epidemiology and health services researchers working under the same roof. The satellite clinical research unit at Lake Nona, Orlando Campus (completion expected in Summer 2012) will create global outreach for the IOA and OAIC; with its proximity to the Burnham Institute, this will represent an ideal opportunity on future highly competitive clinical translational research.

The University of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Institution.
