The new Division of Marketing & Communications (MarComm), focuses on leveraging DU’s uniqueness and strengths to create a relevant and compelling positioning/value proposition. MarComm creates a clear and consistent brand message, building visibility both nationally and internationally, as well as in the community and region. Our key focus is driving awareness of DU and what it has to offer by employing marketing and branding initiatives to facilitate growth.

Job Summary:

The Associate Vice Chancellor of MarComm will be responsible for supporting a marketing vision for the organization under the direction of the Vice Chancellor/CMO. He/she will develop and implement best-in-class integrated marketing plans, working with the different departments and schools at DU, emphasizing its focus schools and prioritizing and aligning resources accordingly. The Associate Vice Chancellor will strengthen the new marketing approach at the University of Denver by:
- Clear, articulated strategic objectives.
- A test and learn culture based on analytics and measurement.
- Innovative messaging, media and marketing.
- Agility in brand and marketing execution.
The key deliverable from the Division of Marketing and Communications is successful strategic, brand focused marketing communications.

The Associate Vice Chancellor leads the development and integration of all marketing programs, driving operational marketing within a strategic framework. Leveraging a partnership approach, s/he must gain alignment and support for marketing initiatives across the University and demonstrate the value-add benefits that strategic marketing can bring to the enterprise. Leading a team of direct and indirect reports, the incumbent expertly guides the University from reactive and tactical storytelling to strategic, brand focused marketing communications. This creative, conceptual thinker with deep and broad brand and marketing expertise honors the unique culture and values of the University of Denver in achieving objectives. Specific duties are as follows:

- Provide industry-leading innovation in strategy, marketing and business planning derived from consumer/market centric research, applying analytics as well as creative thinking in order to further the brand and move the enterprise forward.
- Function as “Shepherd of the brand” – clarifying, articulating and executing communication of the unique qualities that define DU in the form of brand architecture to external as well as internal constituencies, across all communication touch points.
- Lead a direct team of marketing professionals who manage and deliver the print and digital media assets of the university, marketing/promotion planning, on-campus signage, as well as photography and video production.
- Build marketing “best practices”; define and strengthen the role of marketing across the University and bring “out-of-the-box” thinking to identify new integrated marketing directions that bring brand vision to life.
- Identify and lead the people strategy in the marketing function; provide the inspirational leadership necessary to develop, mentor, and motivate a high performing team.
- Lead in a dotted line fashion a cross-university consortium of marketing and communication professionals to achieve brand and marketing objectives across the campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master’s degree in Management, Marketing, Communications or related field.
-Proven track record of success with 15 years of brand, marketing and/or product management experience in consumer goods or services and/or higher education fields.
-Cutting-edge understanding of the best marketing approaches in use by customer-oriented organizations.
-Track record of success in a highly matrix-ed environment with multiple constituents; ability to integrate thinking across divergent points of view.
-Promotion planning skills and demonstrated experience in advertising and promotion management, including direct marketing and CRM.
-Experience and comfort using analytics to drive marketing innovation, combined with the ability to generate creative ideas and also lead execution against these ideas.
-Demonstrated ability to conceive new research based marketing strategies and successfully lead implementation.
-Financial analysis skills and experience in data-driven decision making.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in Management, Marketing, Communications or related field.
-10 years of brand, marketing and/or product management experience in consumer goods or services and/or higher education fields.
-Digital marketing expertise with some knowledge of publishing operations.
-Promotion planning skills and demonstrated experience in advertising and promotion management, including direct marketing and CRM.
-Experience and comfort using analytics to drive marketing innovation, combined with the ability to generate creative ideas and also lead execution against these ideas.
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers, subordinates, and senior leaders in achieving objectives.
-Track record building and leading high performing teams with experience managing a large staff.
