Posting Description: This position is part-time 24 hours/week with schedule flexibility during core working hours (8am - 5pm). The position will require some evening and weekend work on an occasional basis to support technology upgrades during non-business hours. This is not a telecommute position. This position is responsible for the following: *Technical Expertise -* Provides technical expertise to assist the IT Manager in implementing current and new technologies and strategies. Proactively advises IT Manager on Software and hardware needs, ensuring the reliability of systems, servers, and the network. Assist the IT Manager in the management of crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems. Participates in the implementation of cost-saving strategies. Percentage of time: 40% *ITLL Server and Network Systems -* Assures reliability of ITLL servers and network. Monitors and regulates availability of shared files and hardware resources (printers, scanners, etc.). Collaborates with IT Manager for continual testing and improvements that assure systems security and stability. Monitors system security to prevent damage from external attacks and user error. Stays abreast of system threats and vulnerabilities, and implements software and procedural changes to maintain system integrity. Percentage of time: 15% *Server and Computer Network Systems Design -* Manages two Windows Active Directory networks consisting of 30+ Windows servers and ~250 Windows 7 Professional client precision workstations and laptops. Collaborates with the IT Manager and responds to technical and networking issues that arise. Analyzes various faculty, staff and student user needs and applies appropriate technology solutions and innovations. Within a pre-determined annual budget, recommends and implements system and network upgrades. Percentage of time: 15% *ITLL and BOLD Center Software Maintenance -* Assists IT Manager in software installations on ~220 workstations and laptops. Communicates and solicits feedback on plans prior to implementation. Maintains software status database and assures that software use is legal and licenses are up-to-date. Maintains library of original systems software. Assures that software versions are current and consistent with the Office of Information Technology Services (OIT). Develops and collaborates with IT Manager in building system upgrade plans. Tests and analyzes new software for functionality and compatibility with currently installed applications software. Works with ITL technical staff to assure compatibility with laboratory experiment software, equipment and modules. Percentage of time: 10% *User Account Maintenance -* Creates and administers user network accounts (currently ~4,500), user groups and class folders year round, working in a collaborative manner with ITL staff and ITL system users. Assists in creation, use, and deletion of user accounts, and clearly communicates and enforces procedures alongside IT Manager. Archives and deletes old accounts in a timely fashion. Percentage of time: 10% *BOLD Center Network -* Alongside the IT Manager, aids in the management of the BOLD Center servers, workstations and printers. Creates and administers user network accounts (~1,500), user groups and class folders year round, working in a collaborative manner with BOLD Center staff and system users. Determines policy for creation, use and removal of user accounts, and clearly communicates and enforces procedures. Archives and deletes old accounts in a timely fashion. Percentage of time: 10% *Salary and Benefits:* $2,700-3,250/month, depending on experience. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field and one year systems administration experience. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and solve server and workstation hardware and software problems. Ability to work independently as well as on a team. Experience with managing Windows Active Directory networks, backup solutions, and print management. Proficient in the following computer languages: Windows 2003, 2008, and 2012 server operating system, and Windows 7 Professional operating system. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications: Experience working in a customer support or customer service environment where work priorities may shift spontaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstration of complex problem solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs, as well as willingness and desire to learn as technology evolves.
