Posting Description: Examples of Work Performed: *Strategically set the direction of the Forum in the College of Business with the guidance of the Forum Business Partners o Establish short-run and long-run goals for the success and growth of the Forum and strategies to implement and achieve these goals. o Director is granted wide discretion in managing the activities of the Forum o Strategic plan and budgets must be fiscally sound and project at the minimum a breakeven for each year *The Southern Colorado Economic Forum receives a small base budget from the University. The remaining funding for the Forum comes from its external fundraising activities. The Director is expected to: o Maintain funding by meeting regularly with Forum partners o Solicit continued partnerships and sponsorships o Call prospective and existing partners to solicit new and renewing sponsorships o Work with the CU Foundation on sponsorships o Prepare proposals for funded research projects as opportunities arise and complete required work and analysis for accepted proposals. *The primary responsibility for the position is research into the global, national and regional economy. As such, the person in the position will possess strong econometric, analytical and statistical skills typical of an individual trained at the PhD level. We anticipate Forum director will be qualified to serve as principal investigator on federal, state and local government or private grants. Further, the candidate is expected to contribute to the business community and the state of Colorado by conducting fee for service activities at the level requiring PhD training in the area of economics, urban and regional planning or related field. *Research and analyze global, national and local economic and quality of life information. The research requirement is expected to require a PhD level applicant in economics, urban and regional economics or related field. o Use econometric, statistical and quantitative skills to address questions in any awarded funded grant or fee for service activities o Maintain a data base of economic and quality of life indicators o Develop appropriate economic and quality of life metric to analyze the regional economy o Research and analyze economic and quality of life information in order to assess the health of the local and regional economy o Write, edit and publish the annual Southern Colorado Economic Forum report o Collect and analyze economic information in order to write the Quarterly Updates and Estimates (QUE) report o Develop a reputation as the "regional expert" on all issues related to the economy and the quality of life in the southern Colorado region. Use this reputation as a springboard to obtain funded research opportunities to advance the prestige and influence of the Forum in the community. *Coordinate the annual Southern Colorado Economic Forum o Plan marketing activities including brochure development and mailing list o Contract with local vendors o Identify and schedule speakers and panelists o Coordinate the development and maintenance of the Forum's website o Take partner registrations o Present results of research on the local economy o Hold regular meetings with Forum partners to plan the annual Forum o Coordinate all other activities associated with the event. *Prepare and present approximately 30-40 customized presentations for various groups in the southern Colorado region. *Assist the Colorado Business Economic Outlook Forum in estimating the annual manufacturing report section and writing the southern Colorado report for their "around the state" summary. *Maintain and prepare annual budgets o Develop, execute, and manage budget plan o Comply with all accounting procedures on grants and fee for service activities o Maintain the gift account *Maintain weekly communication with media and be the resident economic expert and spokesperson for the College. Minimum Qualifications: *Ph.D. in Economics, Urban and Regional Planning or related field. *Experience conducting regional economic analysis. *Experience in economic impact and economic base diversification analysis. *Experience in fundraising, budgeting, and grant writing.
