Posting Description: This full-time, state classified Police Communications Technician is a police dispatch (911) position that includes a records section and safety and security monitoring center. This position is responsible for receiving emergent and non-emergent information and then dispatching as appropriate to officers and other emergency personnel within and surrounding the campus community. Specific job responsibilities may include: dispatching officers/guards and other personnel by gathering information from the phone, radio, computers, alarms, and monitors; monitoring alarmed areas, fire systems, cameras other police agencies and weather conditions by viewing and listening to computers video monitors, printers and radios; processes, enters, maintains and distributes police records; obtains, dispatches, enters, and cancels crime information on vehicles, persons, and property by using the computer to access the National and Colorado Crime Information Centers; trains on dispatch duties and processes by practicing, drilling, reading material and attending classes; operates numerous equipment on a daily basis and reports malfunctions to appropriate supervisor or personnel; and various other duties or tasks as assigned and/or needed. This position operates dispatch equipment to include Computer Aided Dispatch; National and Colorado Crime Information Center computer; Computerized Network Video Recordings and live cameras; ID Access, door, and alarm computer; Fire Computer; E-911 Computer; University Police Radio; Aurora and Denver Police Radios; Hospital Radios; Mass Notification Systems; NOAA Weather Radio; Dictaphone Call-Check devices; Dictaphone Digital Recording Computer; Department Fax Machine; Department Copy Machine; TTY for the hearing impaired.
Note: This is an essential services position. The incumbent is required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shift during emergency campus closures.
The University of Colorado Denver requires security and law enforcement coverage 24/7. Employees in this position may be required to work either a straight or rotating shift, and/or to "stay over late" or "come in early" to "cover" shifts as needed. Employees in this position must provide off-hour contact information to be accessible during non-work hours in case of emergencies or to cover unscheduled staffing shortages.
In special circumstances, this position may be assigned to support the Police Division in a security role. Persons in this position must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking/standing for extended periods of time, walk up and down stairs of multiple story buildings.

Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in police radio/telephone communications equipment operations.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Successful completion of an authorized Communication Training Officer Program (or equivalent) may substitute for the year of required experience.
