Posting Description: The physician assistant will provide clinical care in the Clinical Decision Unit within the Emergency Department at the University of Colorado Hospital, as delegated by a person licensed to practice medicine in Colorado. Principal activities include patient care in a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) in the Emergency Department, staffed with Faculty Attendings. Delegated medical care includes, but is not limited to, the assessment, treatment and care of patients of all age categories. It is expected the employee will be competent to interpret age specific developmental, physiologic and unique care needs by assessment and observation medical care delivery. Patients who are provided ED observation care services include those who require prolonged ED observation (up to 24 hours) because of current diagnostic uncertainty or required therapeutic intensity. Specific duties will be as follows: 1. Review history and physical examination results of patients evaluated in the Emergency Department and admitted to the CDU. 2. Coordinate additional studies and consultations with ancillary services including but limited to psychiatry, cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology, respiratory therapy, trauma, and surgery services. 3. Assist in scheduling patients for clinical appointments and procedures. 4. Participate in patient education. 5. Perform, or assist physician with direct patient care services. Administer medicine and therapeutic agents as directed. Reassess patients in a timely fashion to determine appropriate disposition including hospital admission, discharge, or transfer. 6. Participate in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory accreditation and other internal and external performance standards. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Active and current license to practice as a physician assistant in the State of Colorado 2. Certificate of completion from a physician assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) 3. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants 4. Current and active certification in basic life support (BLS) 5. Baccalaureate degree 6. Minimum of one year clinical experience in inpatient medicine or surgical settings (i.e. hospitalist, internal medicine, inpatient family medicine)

One year or more of clinical experience in emergency care or urgent care post-graduation in addition to a minimum of one year clinical experience in inpatient medicine or surgical settings 2.
