Posting Description: *Please note the full consideration date for applications has been extended.* This position is part-time 24 hours/week with schedule flexibility during core working hours (8am - 5pm). The position will require some evening and weekend work on an occasional basis to support technology upgrades during non-business hours. This is not a telecommute position. Investigates and Deploys New Technologies - The CSD creates, tests and implements new software in the ever-changing ITL Laboratory and Broadening Opportunity through Leadership and Diversity (BOLD) Center environments. Collaborating with the IT Manager and Systems Administrator, the CSD focuses on creating viable solutions that run efficiently and reliably in a large computing environment, with a constant eye on usability and maintainability. The CSD continues to develop a high level of skill and knowledge within modern development environments and frameworks, such as Visual Studio and the Microsoft .NET framework. Percentage of time: 25% ITL Laboratory Software Development and Maintenance - The Computer Systems Developer (CSD) maintains and develops proprietary in-house custom .NET applications and SQL databases, and ensures software and system databases are functional and reliable. Continual development in SQL and MySQL is essential in order to effectively manage ITL system databases. Communicates with, and elicits feedback from, ITL staff on software and/or system changes, continuously improving functionality and performance. The CSD also responds to requests to enhance multiple web sites through PHP-based systems, such as Expression Engine and WordPress. Keeps up-to-date with web development skills while investigating new technologies to improve web site performance. Percentage of time: 50% Sensitive Data and Equipment Security Control - The CSD is responsible for controling access to sensitive data and a large IT equipment base. Percentage of time: 10% BOLD Center Software Development and Maintenance - Maintains in-house custom the .NET applications and SQL databases for the BOLD Center network. Adds and deletes customized functions as necessary in accordance with BOLD organizational needs. Ensures software programs and applications are functional and reliable. Percentage of time: 15% *Salary and Benefits:* $2,700-3,250/month, depending on experience. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related software development field. Experience in development, design and implementation of software systems, Microsoft SQL, and web applications. Professional development experience with .NET framework, PHP, and HTML a must. Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Microsoft SQL databases to modern best practice and security standards essential.
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Desired Qualifications: Experience with a diverse set of computer languages and programs; including but not limited to: Java, C, C++, C#, VB Scripting, PHP, MySQL, CSS, WordPress, Expression Engine and Dreamweaver. Experience working in a customer service environment where work priorities and organizational needs shift. Ability to work independently as well as on a team. Demonstrated skills in complex problem solving. Willingness and desire to learn is highly desirable.
