Practice at the College of Nursing is based on years of innovation and excellence, rooted largely in our recognition as the birthplace of nurse practitioner education. We are national leaders in nurse-managed care. Our federally qualified health center, Sheridan Health Services, provides an integrated, patient-centered care model for persons of all ages. Our nationally renowned midwifery practices include behavioral health as well as water birth. With regard to clinical education, we were one of the 15 pilot schools to test learning activities for the Quality and Safety Education in Nursing initiative. The college also was one of six schools to test interprofessional learning activities in the "Retooling for Quality and Safety" initiative spearheaded by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), its Open School, and Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. Our research mission has two primary foci: biobehavioral science and health care systems. The college's faculty are engaged in bold steps to move to team-based science, develop team-based areas of excellence, speed the development of new knowledge through diverse funding mechanisms, and accelerate the application of research through innovative academic-practice partnerships.
