Unit Job Summary: Systems and Security Administrator: Responsible for maintaining, and supporting the Windows environment for the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business (BOOTH), Center for Research and Security Prices (CRSP). This includes the day-to-day management of the Windows environment and security devices (Cisco ASA and VPN Concentrator), system related support of the Daily Index application, operational support of Windows workstations and servers, assisting in hardware and software upgrades, serving as a Windows expert, keeping abreast of technology trends and information, and recommending appropriate system solutions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Participate in the implementation and maintenance of Windows environment including: hardware, groupware (email), Active Directory, data backup, security including anti-virus, usage tracking, firewalls, VPN, and virtualized use of hardware.
-Maintain / monitor performance of Windows servers: Active Directory, DHCP, Exchange, Print services, IIS, Apache, data backups and Anti-Virus.
-Maintain / monitor performance of security devices: Cisco ASA and Cisco VPN Concentrator.
-Maintain / monitor performance of Windows desktops and laptops.
-Maintain / monitor performance of Windows servers: Active Directory, DHCP, Exchange, Print services, IIS, Symantec BackupExec, VEEAM and Anti-Virus.
-Maintain / monitor performance of Windows virtualization (VMWare).
-Maintain / monitor performance of SQL data bases.
-Perform System's related production support of the daily Index application under the direction of the programming staff.
-Assist with and/or resolve open issues related to Windows desktops and servers.
-Stay informed on technology trends and information resources.
-Serve as an expert and advisor to CRSP staff on Windows.
Unit Education: Bachelor's degree with at least three years of relevant experience OR at least five years of substantive relevant technical experience required.
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and/or Cisco Firewall Specialist and/or Cisco VPN Specialist preferred.
Unit Experience: Experience solving technical security issues required.
Experience with virtualization preferred.
Experience implementing, administrating, and tuning Microsoft SQL data bases preferred.
Unit Job Function Competencies: Substantive knowledge of technical applications used at CRSP including Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Office Suite required.
Working knowledge of MS Operating Systems - including Windows and Windows Server required.
Knowledge of Cisco ASA firewall and Cisco VPN concentrator required.
Knowledge of desktop and server hardware required.
Proven ability to: assist with solving complex systems problems, work independently, learn quickly, work well with others at all levels of the CRSP organization in a team environment required.
Excellent communication skills required.
Knowledge of Symantec Anti-Virus, Symantec BackupExec, VEEAM, IIS, Apache, and Office preferred.
Knowledge of HP Proliant series preferred.
