Unit Job Summary: Systems Administrator: Responsible for maintaining and supporting the Windows environment for the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business - Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP). This includes operational support of Windows workstations and servers, system related support of the Daily Index application and participating as a member of a team in CRSP project efforts. Responsible for serving and assisting with problem solving on Windows issues, Microsoft SQL issues and keeping abreast of technology trends and information, and recommending appropriate system solutions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Configure, maintain and monitors Windows servers efficiently.
Maintain and monitors backups for servers.
Maintain security settings for files, accounts, password, anti-virus, and firewall.
Configure, maintain, and manage users PCs (desktops, laptops and tablets) efficiently.
Assist with and/or resolve open issues related to Windows desktops and servers.
Perform System's related production support of the daily Index application under the direction of the programming staff.
Assist supporting and monitoring of SQL data bases.
Document configurations, including interaction with servers, firewall settings, etc.
Sufficiently understand technology not part of core job responsibilities demonstrated by implementing or troubleshooting when necessary.
Perform recurring critical, assigned functions reliably (backup operator, daily system checklist, log monitoring, etc.).
Work effectively under the direction of others on larger Intra-CRSP projects
Keep abreast of technology trends and information, recommending appropriate systems solutions.
Unit Education: Bachelor's degree with at least one year of relevant experience OR an Associate's degree with at least eighteen months of relevant experience technical experience OR at least three years of substantive relevant technical experience required.
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Cisco Firewall Specialist, and/or Cisco Certifications preferred.
Unit Experience: Experience solving technical security issues required.
Experience with CISCO ASA firewall and Cisco VPN concentrator preferred.
Unit Job Function Competencies: Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, including Windows and Windows Server, required.
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with supervisors and co-workers required.
Ability and willingness to work outside of normal work hours for performing maintenance and upgrades required.
Working knowledge using and administrating SQL databases preferred.
Working knowledge of VMWare, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, and Office Suite preferred.
Knowledge of Symantec Anti-Virus, Symantec BackupExec, VEEAM backups, SQL Server, IIS, Apache and Office preferred.
Knowledge of Web/Application servers such as Apache and IIS preferred.
Knowledge of desktop and server hardware required. HP Proliant series experience preferred.
