About The Unit: The new Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME) explores innovative technologies that address fundamental societal problems through advances in nanoscale manipulation and design on a molecular scale. The Institute, which was created in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory, is the largest new academic program that the University has started since 1988.
Unit Job Summary: Research Manager: Responsible for managing financial, personal and administrative aspects of a research lab. The activities include but not limited to the following:
-Provide support to PI on preparing grant/funding applications.
-Oversee the development, implementation and progress of the research projects. Collaborate with other research labs as needed
-Oversee the operations of the research labs. Develop, monitor and control the research budget. Establish goals, operating procedures, practices and guidelines. Investigate, modify and apply new procedures and techniques.
-Supervise up to 10 researchers and research supporting staff.
-Develop, implement and monitor compliance program to ensure compliance of the research activities with regulations, directives and mandates. Responsible for developing animal experimental protocols for IACUC approval.
Unit Education: Ph.D. Degree in a field of biological sciences required.
Unit Experience: Scientific expertise in Lymphatic biology and immunobiology, interactive imaging and microsurgery required.
Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures in animal research protocols required.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Experience in managing a bio-immunology research lab preferred.

Responsibilities may include the following laboratory duties:
*Establishing new laboratories and providing assistance with purchasing new laboratory equipment.
*Ensuring efficient operation of laboratory, including overseeing maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
