About The Unit: The mission of the University of Chicago Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS) is to promote interdisciplinary collaboration for research and training in health-related research. Located within the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) at the University of Chicago Medical Center, CHeSS bridges faculty, fellow, and student affiliates from various departments and centers across the University of Chicago campus. CHeSS provides needed infrastructure to support and encourage new research initiatives at the interface of health and the social sciences. Such infrastructure includes: coordination of collaborative efforts in research and training; shared space; grant support and fundraising; and computer, data, and focused methodological support.
Unit Job Summary: Post Award Specialist: Execute post-award functions for a portfolio of grants administered in CHeSS and would work directly with the Post Award Manager and the CHeSS Executive Director. Work with faculty investigators, project coordinators, and university administrators to ensure fiscal and regulatory compliance for grants that have been funded, and will take a role in planning and managing post-award operations.
Post Award Management - Responsible for all non-salary post award activities, including regulatory compliance monitoring, sub-contract relationships, invoice preparation, payment processing, cost center charges, cost transfers, grant projections for approximately 135 accounts. Responsible for the preparation of monthly reports and summaries to the Principal Investigator (PI) via grant projections and responds to questions from PIs regarding non-salary spending, agency guidelines, etc. Responsible for tracking and reconciling non-personnel expenditures. Assists in all other post-award activities including account creation, salary allocations, and grant closing processes and account closing. Responsible for coordinating and ensuring completion of annual, final, and ad hoc financial requirements, keeping the PI informed of progress. Interacts with University Research Administration, Faculty, Department Pre-Award Staff, Department Human Resources, Pre/post Award staff in other departments and Financial Services Office personnel.
General Administrative Support - Assist in administering processes for the general operations for the Center; assist in managing Center administrative and grant accounts; assist in managing the coordination of services to projects housed in the Center; assist in supervision of day to day activities of the Center's administrative staff; facilitate interactions among a diverse group of faculty, students, and administrators to ensure fiscal and regulatory compliance for grant applications and awards.
Unit Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Master's degree in health services, health administrative, or a related field preferred.
Unit Experience: Previous financial administration experience required.
Experience administering complex externally-funded projects in a university setting preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
