University of California Riverside invites interested applicants for the position, Instructional Design/Technology Consultant who is passionate about helping faculty select and master the appropriate technologies to enhance student learning and achieve pedagogical goals. The successful candidate thrives on the challenges of building solutions for the teaching and learning environment, embracing existing traditional on-campus, blended, and on-line courses as well as emerging models, distance education, multimedia and instructional design.
Under general supervision this position supports faculty development efforts through direct consultation with faculty to create instructional materials, facilitation of faculty and student learning communities, and coordination of events and programs. The incumbent will help plan, coordinate and provide the design, development, and management of educational technologies that best support the instructional model. The incumbent will provide direct technical support to faculty and students utilizing various technologies and digital media in face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. The incumbent will also collaboratively participate in the professional development and training of faculty in the uses of instructional technologies, such as Learning Management Systems (Blackboard), web conferencing, lecture capture, digital asset production and management (images, video, audio), and presentation tools. This position may also serve as a consultant and liaison to an assigned portfolio of departments.
1 Demonstrated successful completion of a progressively rigorous course of instruction resulting in a Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution, related to the field of Instructional Design or related discipline. Or, a Bachelor's degree in an applicable professional discipline and five years of direct experience.
2 Thorough knowledge of effective instructional design principles and strategies, and ability to stay current with emerging pedagogical practices, especially those supported by technology.
3 Serve as one of several Blackboard administrators and provide development, training and support for Blackboard to the campus.
4 High level of digital literacy/fluency, including:
Comprehensive ability to adapt to new technologies and learn new tools quickly by analyzing information and independently applying technical judgment to achieve desired outcomes.
Proficient in the use of multimedia (digital audio and video, scanners, digital cameras)
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
Excellent time management skills.
Strong working knowledge of visual design in designing, developing, and delivering workshops and presentations.
Ability to worth with and train in both a PC and Macintosh environment.
5 Strong evidence of customer service focus/orientation.
6 Strong personal and interpersonal organization habits and skills, focused on project management and collaborative group productivity.
7 Experience in a higher education environment helping instructors define active learning strategies and educational goals, fostering student participation and choosing appropriate delivery media.
8 Experience facilitating long term complex course design projects with intermediate to advanced experience in using web and media based instructional design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, HTML, CSS, Blackboard Collaborate as well as Blackboard Learn.
9 Support faculty in the integration of social media tools and emerging technologies.
10 Ability to stay current with emerging technologies, new products, methodologies, and pedagogy as they relate to Blackboard as well as any Blackboard enhancements and developments that integrates into the Blackboard system.
1 Doctor's degree in instructional or curriculum design/technology, education with online teaching emphasis or related discipline.
2 Three or more years of full-time professional experience in higher education redesigning, supporting and advocating for faculty as an instructional/curriculum designer.
3 Experience with event management and/or facilitation of faculty support programs.
4 Experience with assessment of faculty support initiatives and programs.
5 Experience with interactive computing environments, classroom and learning space technology/design, and effective course delivery using technology.
